Stephen M. Kawalek, RA, PP Principal

Stephen Kawalek is a graduate of New York University (BA, 1993; MA, 1995) and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he received a Master’s of Architecture at the top of his class in 2000. Subsequent to receiving his degree, Mr. Kawalek interned at Rogers Marvel Architects in New York City. He received his license to practice architecture in the State of New Jersey in 2005, followed by licenses in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida. He is a licensed professional planner in the State of New Jersey and maintains an active NCARB certificate. He is also the founder of Fabrik, LLC, a construction company catering exclusively to clients of Kawalek+Kawalek.

Harold J. Kawalek, AIA, Founder emeritus

After graduating from Brooklyn’s Institute for Design and Construction (IDC) in 1958, Harold Kawalek spent a decade working for the firms of Walter Lillian Associates and Brown and Matthews. In 1970, Mr. Kawalek took a position in the Engineering Department of Hudson County, where he supervised large-scale public projects of all kinds. In 1980, he was hired by the newly formed New Jersey Transit (NJT) to supervise the rehabiltation and reconstruction of all passenger railroad facilities throughout the state of New Jersey. Mr. Kawalek left NJT in 1985 to focus full-time on his private practice, founded upon receiving his professional license from the state of New Jersey in 1976. In 1977, he earned his professional licenses to practice architecture in New York and Pennsylvania. He is an emeritus member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and was certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He was an active member of Rotary International for decades, where for many years, he dedicated much of his time and effort to the Gift of Life program. He retired from practice in 2022 at the age of 88.
